'We'll get it permanently fixed': Donald Trump tours California to inspect LA fire destruction

Los Angeles/IBNS: US president Donald Trump on Friday toured California to inspect the damage caused by the wildfire in Los Angeles setting aside his differences with Democratic governor Gavin Newsom, media reports said.

Trump visited California amid worries over the aid and recovery of Los Angeles where the wildfire scorched thousands of acres, burnt down over 10,000 structures and killed about 30 people.

For nearly three weeks, thousands of firefighters and personnel have mobilized to SoCal to protect our communities.

They've battled flames along thousands of acres while facing extremely inhospitable conditions on the ground.

We commend your bravery. Thank you to our heroes. pic.twitter.com/bbwFhbZkxW

"I think you're going to see some very good progress," Trump said and added, "We want to get the problem fixed. It's like you got hit by a bomb."

"We'll get it permanently fixed so it can't happen again," the US president said.

Gavin Newsom just thanked President Trump for visiting California.

It's funny how Newsom talked all that talk on the internet, but in person, he turns into a grateful puppy.

Trump had earlier lashed out at Newsom over the wildfire that led more than 100,000 evacuated.

On January 8, Trump, who was then the president-elect, had called Newsom "Gavin Newscum" in a social media post.

Trump had written on social media, "This is all his fault!!!"

However, Trump's encounter with Newsom on Friday was cordial with both shaking hands on the tarmac of Air Force One at Los Angeles International Airport.

"Thank you first for being here. It makes a great deal to all of us," Newsom told Trump.

The California governor also recounted how Trump had helped the U.S. state during Covid-19.

Trump on why he’s embracing Newsom:

“We’re looking to get something completed, and the way you get it completed is to work together. He’s the Governor of this state.”

"You were with California during Covid-19, I don't forget that, and I have all the expectations that we'll be able to work together to get this speedy recovery," Newsom told Trump.

The governor on Thursday announced a state-level aid package worth $2.5 billion for the recovery from the fire damage.
