American singer Mary Millben has urged world leaders to address the arrest of ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das and the attack on Hindu and other minorities in Bangladesh, the latest episodes which have triggered fresh tension in the country that has witnessed political instability ever since former PM Sheikh Haina-led government was ousted from power on August 5.

Highlighting the plight of minorities in Bangladesh, Millben wrote on X: "The imprisonment of Chinmoy Krishna Das and the continued attacks against Hindus and other minorities by extremist in Bangladesh must be addressed now by world leaders."

In her message, the singer said: "We must preserve religious freedom, and the safety of all people of faith globally. #ReleaseChinmoyKrishnaDas."

Bangladesh's ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Thursday condemned the murder of a lawyer in Chittagong and the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, demanding his immediate release.

"A top leader of Sanatan religious community has been unjustly arrested, he must be released immediately. A temple has been burnt in Chittagong. Previously, mosques, shrines, churches, monasteries and homes of the Ahmadiyya community were attacked, vandalized and looted and set on fire," she stated.

"Religious freedom and security of life and property of people of all communities should be ensured," she added.

Hasina fled to India following violent student protests in August.

She said several opposition leaders and students were being attacked and arrested, and called for an end to such "anarchist activities".

Assistant Public Prosecutor Saiful Islam lost his life on Tuesday during violent clashes between security forces and supporters of Chinmoy Krishna Das, after a Chittagong court rejected Das’s bail request in a sedition case, according to police.

Calling for justice, she said, "I am expressing strong protest against this murder. Those involved in this murder will have to be found and punished quickly."

Sheikh Hasina said the ‘unconstitutionally’ appointed Muhammad Yunus-led interim government failed to protect human rights.
