5 UP cops suspended in connection with Atiq Ahmed, brother Ashraf's murder in police custody
Lucknow: The UP government has suspended five police officials in connection with the brazen murders of gangster politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed on the night of April 15, media reports said.
The suspended cops were posted at the Shahganj Police Station and the medical college hospital where the two brothers were killed falls within the limits of this police station.
Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, both accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, were shot by three individuals who posed as journalists. The shooting occurred while several police officers and media personnel were present to interview the duo.
As per media reports, the three killers identified as Sunny Singh (23) from Hamirpur, Lavlesh Tiwari (22) from Banda, and Arun Maurya (18) from Kasganj, were sent to a four-day police remand until April 23.
The suspension of the police officers and the police remand of the shooters follows Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s meeting to nab Shaista Parveen, Atiq's wife, and another accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, Guddu Muslim.
The CM’s meeting with Uttar Pradesh Police STF head Amitabh Yash, Special DG Prashant Kumar, and other police officers was held online.
Guddu Muslim, Shaista Parveen and two other accused in the Umesh Pal murder case are absconding, while six accused have been killed.
