AAP MP Sanjay Singh sends legal notice to ED for allegedly tarnishing his public image
New Delhi/IBNS: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday sent a legal notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for allegedly tarnishing his public image, demanding the agency issue an apology.
According to a statement issued by AAP, the legal notice stated that the ED attempted to defame Singh’s public image by popularising “a false, motivated, and baseless campaign”.
He claimed that the statements made by the ED officials were untrue and defamatory.
The legal notice has been served to ED, asking it to issue a public apology within 48 hours failing which, civil and criminal proceedings will be initiated against the officials, the statement read.
The notice, which has been addressed to Enforcement Directorate's Director and Additional Director, stated, “The officials have knowingly and intentionally made certain untrue, defamatory, and incriminating statements against Sanjay Singh in the Delhi Excise Policy prosecution complaint," it said.
Speaking about the issue, Sanjay Singh said that it is highly regrettable that an agency like the ED, which is supposed to be impartial, has resorted to such baseless allegations against him.
“I will not tolerate this kind of character assassination, and I have decided to take legal action against the officials responsible,” he said in a statement.
The notice further pointed out that the ED's associates, agents, and employees attempted to tarnish and mutilate the AAP leader's public image and have attempted to otherwise popularise “a perverse, false, motivated and baseless campaign” against his alleged involvement in Delhi Excise Policy, it added.
