BJP calls Delhi CM Kejriwal 'Maharaja' over alleged Rs. 45 cr spending in house renovation
New Delhi/UNI: The BJP on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly spending Rs 45 crore for renovation of his official residence and said that Kejriwal renovated his "Palace" at a time when there was an outcry in Delhi due to coronavirus.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, Kejriwal, who leads the AAP, had betrayed his promise of promoting honesty and simplicity when he entered politics.
He called him a "Maharaja," or king, and said he had a "lust for luxury and comfort."
Patra said, media reports have claimed that the "palace" of Arvind Kejriwal was being renovated at a time when Covid -19 wrecked havoc in Delhi .
Addressing a press conference at Party Headquarters in New Delhi, he said, "Now I understand why oxygen tankers were not able to reach the hospitals... Arvind ji was not able to give beds to the patients because he was busy renovating his palace".
The BJP spokesperson's remarks came after sting operations by a TV Channel which claimed that Kejriwal spent Rs 45 crore in the renovation of his official residence in civil line in New Delhi.
There are many 'stories' about Kejriwal.
"Kejriwal used to think he'd carry on making everyone fool, but 'Parda uth gaya hai' his stories have been unveiled" Patra said.
He cited documents that showed that Kejriwal's residence had been fitted with expensive marble from Vietnam, prefabricated wooden walls and curtains that cost lakhs of rupees each. One curtain alone cost more than Rs 7.94 lakh, he said.
"This is the story of a shameless king," Patra said.
