Auto-Rickshaw driver crashed to death by unknown vehicle
In a tragic road accident one auto-rickshaw driver died on the spot, when a speeding unknown truck crushed him at the traffic point of Math Chowmuhani area under East Agartala police in the early hours of Saturday.
Police sources said that on Saturday morning at about 3.30 AM, one auto-rickshaw driver, Shyamal Roy of Motor Stand-Nagerjala route moving towards Jogendranagar railway station and when, the auto-rickshaw tried to cross the circle of the Math-Chowmuhani traffic point, an unknown speeding truck crushed him in heavy speed.
Later, firefighters and police rushed to the spot and shifted the driver to GB Hospital, where the visiting doctor declared him brought dead.
After the incident was reported, hundreds of auto-rickshaw drivers under the banner of West Tripura district Auto-rickshaw Sangh (union) rushed to GB Hospital and raised their protest against police. The leaders of Auto-Rickshaw Sangh speaking media persons alleged that despite many Smart City cameras spotted at the accident, till Saturday afternoon police were unable to identify the accused vehicle and its driver. The colleagues of the deceased auto driver, after post-mortem, staged a demonstration at East Agartala police station with the mortal remains of Shyamal Roy and demanded police action to trace the killer driver.
