Kingpin of thieves gang arrested, gold ornaments of Rs. 5 lakh recovered
In a significant success, the Agartala city police managed to arrest a private car driver, who was engaged in driving a private car in daytime, but in the night often led a gang of thieves to commit robberies.
Giving details of the police operations, SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy, arrested thieves leader was identified as Jhantu Miah of Muslim Para of Aralia, near Panchabati market, who was actively involved with many stolen incidents committed in the midnight and has taken the responsibility of the gang for selling of stolen gold ornaments.
SDPO Roy said that in continuation of drive against thieves and robbers across Agartala, the city police during past fortnight have arrested eight thieves, all are member of gang, who were responsible for many stolen incidents and on Wednesday, police has arrested the kingpin of the thieves’ gang and recovered stolen gold ornaments of Rs. 5 lakh.
He said that during the last fortnight, the number of stolen incidents has been drastically reduced across the city and in the same period, police have busted a big gang of thieves and recovered many valuable stolen items under the possession of eight arrested thieves.
He said that based on interrogation statements of 7 arrested thieves, the investigation team managed to trace the kingpin of the gang, who was assigned the task for selling all stolen gold ornaments.
Later, in the wee hours of Wednesday, a team of police led by OC of East Agartala police station Rana Chatterjee raided the Muslim Para of Aralia, near Panchabati market and arrested a private car driver Jhantu Miah.
Roy said that during interrogation, the arrested kingpin has revealed how they committed many stolen incidents and selling of gold ornaments. However, police have also recovered stolen gold ornaments, worth Rs. 5 lakh under the possession of Jhantu Miah. Police added that they will produce him before a local court with police remand appeals to get information of the other fugitive thieve gang members.
