In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, police in Kamalpur subdivision of Dhalai district seized a huge quantity of dry Cannabis (Ganja) and arrested a driver during a Naka checking operation conducted on the basis of secret information.
Police sources said that , a private Mahindra Marazzo vehicle bearing registration number TR01H3927 was travelling towards Kamalpur from the Khowai side. Acting on the tip-off, Kamalpur police station launched an operation at the Srirampur Naka point under Kamalpur subdivision.
During the search operation, police recovered a total of 85 kilograms and 500 grams of dry Ganja packed in 152 packets from inside the vehicle. Police also recovered two additional number plates bearing the same registration number from Assam, raising suspicion of an inter-state smuggling network.
Police seized the vehicle and arrested the driver in connection with the case. An investigation has been initiated to determine the source of the contraband and identify others involved in the trafficking racket.
After seizure of a big consignment of dry Ganja, Sub-Inspector (SI) of police, Debabrata Dutta said that the investigation is underway and further details are expected to emerge during interrogation of arrested driver, who will be produced before a local court with police remand appeal in a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
