The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and social organization Swabhiman staged a protest on Tuesday in front of the office of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), demanding protection of the rights of the transgender community and correction of official educational documents.

According to the organizations, several transgender students who had passed the Secondary (Madhyamik) and Higher Secondary (HS) examinations applied for corrections in their registration certificates, admit cards, mark sheets, and pass certificates. However, the Tripura Board of Secondary Education allegedly rejected their applications.

Protesting against the decision, members of the two organizations demonstrated in front of the TBSE office and later submitted a deputation to the president of the board.

The organizations stated that under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, transgender individuals have the legal right to correct their official documents based on identity certificates and gazette notifications. They demanded that the same rights should also be ensured in educational documents issued by the board.
