Successful anti-drug operation at Sonamura, huge quantities of Ganja seized, one smuggler arrested

In a successful anti-drug operation, the Sepahijala district police on Friday seized huge quantities of dry Cannabis (Ganja) and arrested a smuggler.
Giving details, OC of Sonamura police station, Jayanta Kumar Dey said acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid on Friday afternoon at the house of one Manzil Hossain (38), located in Ghatigore of Kamalnagar Anandapur village under the same police station.
A team of police led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jayanta Kumar Dey , the police dug up the courtyard of the house and recovered seven large drums filled with Ganja from two different spots of the house.
A total of 325 kilograms of Ganja was stored in those drums. According to the police, the current market value of the seized contraband is estimated to be around Rs 11–12 lakh.
He said that accused smuggler Manzil Hossain stored these huge quantities of dry Ganja to smuggle to neighbouring Bangladesh and other states of India.
He added that accused smuggler Manzil Hossain was arrested under a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and will forward him on Saturday before a local court with police remand appeals .
Police suspect that there may be more drums of Ganja hidden either in the same house or elsewhere and OC added that such operations will continue in the coming days.
During the operation, Deputy Magistrate and Collector of Sonamura, Prabir Kumar Saha, Inspector Biplab Debbarma, Sub-Inspector Tapan Kumar Das, Women Assistant Sub-Inspector Ratna Das along with OC and other police and TSR personnel were present.
